Lexington Strides Ahead funds important initiatives of Commerce Lexington’s Economic Development Division and the Business and Education Network. Since the initial campaign in 1997, three sequel campaigns, One Team…One Vision, One Team…One Vision 2 and Full Stride, each falling under the umbrella of Lexington Strides Ahead have been great successes.

The goal of Lexington Full Stride will always be to focus on enhancing our business climate and competitive position. Commerce Lexington's Economic Development Division focuses on three ways to create primary jobs and increase the amount of income coming into our community: business attraction, business retention and expansion, and business creation. Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) is a community-based nonprofit organization providing life-saving blood products to Kentucky hospitals since 1968. A recent SBIR effort with the U.S. Air Force has resulted in a in the scaling of laser and dome nanomaterials for primes to incorporate into defense systems. Another product, nGisulate™, makes electric motors more energy efficient and capable of higher power. nGimat relies on research and development (R&D) activities to drive the development of innovative new products. R&D focus areas include materials and process development as well as new thin-film and nanopowder for various applications and typically performed in collaboration with a customer. These R&D studies can range from small-scale feasibility projects to scale-up for production.
